The Driving Question: Are teachers assigning too much work at the end of the year?

I would like to do research on whether or not students feel as if the amount of work they are given at the end of the year is fair or not. As a student myself, I understand that many teachers throw in last minute projects or tests as one last grade to have. What they may not understand is that since this happens with every class, it can be overwhelming for a student.

3 Guiding Questions:

  1. Do the teachers understand that this happens in almost every class?
  2. Where does the majority of students stand?
  3. For the minority of students who do not follow the popular belief, why?

Challenges I’ve Faced (Continued)

Another challenge that actually was not as expected, is teachers who refused to speak on the topic. Two teachers, who would rather not be named, did not have anything to say about the amount of work they assign at the end of the year. They say that it is simply a part of school and that they are not doing anything out of the ordinary. I tried to get them to speak for the interview but they refused.

Challenges I’ve Faced

One challenge I’ve faced while researching the amount of work that teachers give are biased opinions. All of the students I interviewed seem to have the same opinion on the matter since they are the ones who have to do the work that the teachers assign. They seem to have a common agreement: we want more time to do what we want and we don’t want to do work, as students would.
